Dear Friends,
Welcome to the website of the Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts—I encourage you to take a few moments to explore the many aspects of Wolf Trap! We achieve our mission, as first established by our founder, Catherine Filene Shouse, through diverse performance and innovative education programs for people of all ages in our community and far beyond. Wolf Trap plays an important role as a national leader in arts and education. As a nonprofit organization, we depend on your patronage and support to ensure that this important work will continue to touch the lives of countless individuals.
Welcome to 2010 summer season at Wolf Trap! We hope you will join us in our unique natural oasis with great music, dance, and theater, and so close to our nation’s capital. Through our strong partnership with the National Park Service, the nonprofit Wolf Trap Foundation strives to fulfill our mission to present and create excellent and innovative performing arts programs for the enrichment, education, and enjoyment of a diverse audience; and with more than 100 performances at the Filene Center, this summer promises to be an amazing season of entertainment.
Wolf Trap connects the performing arts to nature in an organic way, allowing patrons of all ages, from this region and beyond, to enrich their lives while enjoying performers they love. A few highlights from the 2010 season include a chance to see The Go-Go’s and Riverdance one last time, with both on their farewell tours. Also, you won’t want to miss extraordinary emerging artists and those making their Wolf Trap debut such as State Radio and Rodrigo y Gabriela. Our commitment to create inspiring new works continues this summer with the D.C. premiere of a new work by the Paul Taylor Dance Company, co-commissioned by Wolf Trap, celebrating the esteemed choreographer’s 80th birthday. Also, the Wolf Trap Opera Company—whose recording of another commissioned work, Volpone, recently received a GRAMMY nomination—returns with three new productions that help rising opera stars gain valuable stage experience.
Our founder, Catherine Filene Shouse, created Wolf Trap to provide an enchanting place for people to experience the power of the performing arts. Today, we continue her legacy to ensure this national treasure remains accessible for future generations. As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, Wolf Trap has joined forces with some of the most recognized names in music—including Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow, and Guster—to launch the Green Music Group. Our green practices now serve as a model for environmental action for local and national performing arts communities.
Simply by enjoying shows here you are supporting Wolf Trap's acclaimed Education Programs for children, adults, and educators locally, nationally, and around the world. Wolf Trap enhances the lives of thousands of children, teachers, artists, and audiences each year. Your patronage helps to change lives through world-class performance and education experiences every day.
Now more than ever, the arts and our parks play a valuable role in reflecting who we are as a society. Thank you for supporting Wolf Trap—your only National Park for the Performing Arts!
