The Juno Award-winning Gryphon Trio has been described by the Globe and Mail as "one of the best ensembles of its kind in the world, consistently making music of rare excellence." Touring internationally since 1993, the Juno award-winning Gryphon Trio has been described by the Globe and Mail as "one of the best ensembles of its kind in the world." It is "among the major players in the international scene in this field." (Classics Today France). Based in Toronto, the Trio tours regularly throughout Canada and the United States, as well as internationally. To date, it has performed in Finland, Germany, France, Belgium, Mexico, Russia, Poland, Greece and Egypt.
The Gryphon Trio's celebrated recordings for the Analekta label includes works by Haydn, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Dvorak, Lalo, Mozart and Canadian composers Chan Ka-Nin, Gary Kulesha, Kelly-Marie Murphy and Christos Hatzis. The Trio recently released their seventh recording, Shostakovich's Seven Romances for Trio and Voice (with soprano Aline Kutan). In 2004, the Gryphon's Canadian Premieres CD was awarded a Juno. This season will see the release of the eagerly anticipated audio recording of Constantinople.
Since 1998, the Gryphon Trio has been Ensemble-in-Residence at the Music TORONTO chamber music series. Jamie Parker, Annalee Patipatanakoon and Roman Borys all teach at the University of Toronto Faculty of Music. Dr. Parker is the Rupert E. Edwards Chair in Piano Performance.
