This literature-based creative drama program was nominated for the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities "Coming Up Taller Award!"

Spring 2008 Schedule and Registration

8 class sessions will be held on Wednesdays from January 30 through March 26, 2008.

In each class, our Teaching Artist will lead a group of students to explore and re-enact a specially selected children's book. The students create and act out original stories based on the book. Various multicultural stories will be used throughout the series of classes. These classes will enhance your child's appreciation of literature and will promote language, thinking skills, creativity, and self-esteem.

Following are some of the books your children might explore:

•  Mirette on the High Wire, by Emily Arnold McCully
•  The Legend of the Bluebonnet, a Native American legend, by Tomie DePaola
•  Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters, an African tale, by John Steptoe

Registration Information

Online registration is now available.
Classes are not interchangeable. Participants can only attend their registered class.

• Tuition: $200 per 8-week session

Space is very limited and available on a first come, first served basis.

All classes are held at the Center for Education at Wolf Trap.

InterAct Story Theatre Director, Lenore Blank Kelner, is the recipient of the 2004 Creative Drama Award from the American Alliance for Theatre and Education for outstanding work in the field of Creative Drama.

Teacher Bio

Melissa Richardson is a director, stage manager, and theater instructor who received her BFA in Directing from Carnegie Mellon University. She has taught classes with InterAct Story Theatre, Educational Theatre Company, Pied Piper Theatre, Adventure Theatre, Franklin Center for the Performing Arts, and the Helen Hayes Legacy Project. She has been the director of the Arlington County Creative and Performing Arts Camp for the past two summers. Stage management credits include productions with Alden Theatre, Washington Shakespeare Company, and American Century Theater. Her production of The Adventures of Paddington Bear was seen this past summer at Adventure Theatre, and upcoming directing projects include The Phantom Tollbooth at Alden Theatre.
