Baby Artsplay Classes
Fall 2008

Wolf Trap Institute's Baby Artsplay is an integrated arts program for infants and toddlers ages 6 to 36 months and their parents and/or caregivers.

Baby Artsplay is a holistic early childhood music, drama, and movement program aimed at supporting intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development.

8 class sessions will be held on Mondays or Saturdays from September 8 through November 10, 2008.

Registration Information

Online registration is now available.
Classes are not interchangeable. Participants can only attend their registered class.


  • Tuition: $200 per 8-week session
Space is very limited and available on a first come, first served basis.


With your registration, you will receive:

  • A special Baby Artsplay kit with the featured children's book, a Baby Artsplay CD, basic rhythm instruments, Wolfie (Wolf Trap's signature furry friend), and other multisensory props
  • Activities and resources to enhance and extend you and your child's experience with the artist

Location

All classes are held at the Center for Education at Wolf Trap.
Changing stations are available in male and female restrooms.

  • Teacher Bios

    Valerie Bayne Carroll, an actor and singer, joined the Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning Through the Arts in 1983 and was the director of the program from 1988 to 1990. She has participated in the development of every aspect of the Institute, including the artist-in-residence model, curriculum materials, the regional programs, national Institute conferences, and field trip performances. She has trained new Institute artists and administrators, and conducted workshops and residencies for preschool teachers and children across the country. In addition to presenting Institute workshops and Baby Artsplay classes, Valerie teaches creative drama in schools throughout the DC area. She received a B.F.A. in theater from Boston University School for the Arts.

    Kofi Dennis is a graduate of the School of Performing Arts, University of Ghana, and studied early childhood and adolescent education at Komenda College, University of Cape Coast. He performs as half of the duo Anansegromma, presenting music, dance, drums, games, and stories. Kofi has been teaching creative drama at the Montessori School of Northern Virginia, Annandale, for the past ten years and has been a Wolf Trap Teaching Artist since 1998. He co-created and performed for many years in Grandmother's Footsteps, an interactive children's performance at The Barns of Wolf Trap. Kofi is also a Wolf Trap Master Teaching Artist who conducts Artsplay and Baby Artsplay as well as residencies in early childhood classrooms. Since 2004, he has teamed up with the faculty of the World Children's Choir to present African drumming for concepts and for peace. His three daughters sing with the choir.

    Krissie Marty studied theater and postmodern dance at the University of Texas and choreography at the University of Iowa. She has taught children and adults of all abilities with the Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning Through the Arts, Jacob's Pillow School, Towson University, Liz Lerman Dance Exchange, NewVic (London), Adugna Dance Company (Ethiopia), and Grinnell College. Her choreography has been performed at the Kennedy Center, Stratford Circus, Chateau de Cazals, Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, and Rockledge Elementary School’s cafetorium. Krissie has also danced with children in home health and hospice care, as well as at the Pediatric Unit at Georgetown Medical Center. She has been a Wolf Trap Teaching Artist for three years.

    Sylvia Zwi worked as an educator in the state of New York for five years before she moved to the DC area. She worked in several different schools including the Stecher and Horowitz School of the Arts where she instructed young children in music. Upon arrival in DC, she secured a job with the Levine School of Music in the Early Childhood Department. She has worked there both with the summer camp and in-house instructing "Exploring Music," "Exploring the Keyboard," and various singing games. She has also participated in the outreach programs of the Frederick Douglas Center, the Devereux Foundation, and F.L.O.C. Originally from Brazil, Ms. Zwi speaks both Portuguese and English.
